Applying a leg band to a sixteen day old baby Sun Conure
We band our birds with a closed metal leg band, sized to standards as per the bird species. Banding a bird helps us provide better record keeping for the pedigree of our birds.
|Choosing the correct size leg band is very important.||Gently secure the baby's leg. Manipulate the birds three longest toes forward and position the shortest toe facing back.||Carefully slide the band onto the three forward facing toes.|
|While holding the three toes forward, slide the band back over leg and smallest toe.||Carefully work smallest toe forward until free. Leg band is now correctly secured on young bird's leg.||We check daily to ensure leg band is in it's correct position as the bird grows.|
